Planting in summer. Being surrounded by beautiful plants in beautiful gardens often results in a pesky inspirational itch. Even if you’re a seasoned gardener and you know that it involves extra work, adding plants at the height of summer can be hard to resist.

For instance, I was never really a bigleaf hydrangea person, but that has changed over the past year and a half of walking by this row of Let’s Dance Can Do!™ hydrangeas. I have met my limit. Seeing them consistently look so good (↓) has tipped me over the edge. We cut this rebloomer back quite hard in the spring last year, just to see what would happen (check out the video below). It totally blew us away. It sets flower buds all along the stem, not just at the top, so we didn’t lose all of its old wood blooms AND it produced a ton of new growth, abundant with flowers.
