Plant Care
Light: Will grow in locations where it can get at least four hours of direct sun exposure, but is happiest getting six hours or more. It gets its best foliage color and flower set with full sun. In warmer zones, it could benefit from placement in afternoon shade so it doesn’t burn up.
Soil: Adapts to most soil types, but needs it to be free draining. Any period of extended sogginess will not be tolerated.
Water: After it’s established it is quite drought tolerant, only needing water when there are extended periods of time without precipitation.
Fertilizing: Nothing special required. If desired, you may apply a granular fertilizer formulated for flowering shrubs in late winter/early spring when the soil is workable.
Pruning: Pruning isn’t necessary for the plant’s health, but for appearances’ sake you can shape it in early spring. If desired, you can also give it a light trim after its first flush of flowers to promote colorful new growth.
